Poochon Temperament
While playful with people and animals, Poochons are typically very affectionate with their own family members. They would also do well in an active, single person household. Just make sure that you have the time and attention to give to this little charming dog.
Most Poochons are easy to train, as they are very focused on, and attuned to, their owners. Even at a young age, they are capable of picking up simple commands within just a few repetitions, and basics such as “sit” and “stay” are rapidly learned, especially if practiced around feeding time. Socialisation training is an important responsibility of dog ownership, and all pups should be given the opportunity to meet new people and pets on a regular basis once they have the protection of their primary vaccination course behind them.
Most of our Poochons go to homes with children but are equally just as suitable for single people as well. Many of our Poochons also share their homes with other pets including other dogs, cats, rabbits and birds but it’s important to supervise them while they are young puppies to make sure they don’t pester other animals like rabbits which could cause the animal to over stress.
Poochon Health
Poochons are generally healthy dogs. The average lifespan for a Poochon is about 12 to 15 years but parentage is one factor that will influence longevity. Our Poochons are DNA Health Tested for genetic health issues to reduce the risk of health issues in our Poochons.
Poochon Grooming
Because Poochons are crossed with a Bichon Frise and a Poodle they often make better dogs for people with allergies however allergies are not caused by a particular type of coat but by dander (dead skin cells) which all dogs drop (and humans for that matter) but Poochons like other Poodle crosses shed less of.
Most Poochon owners prefer to have their dogs clipped (or clip them themselves) about every 6 to 10 weeks. If the coat is kept at a short to medium length, the Poochon requires only a small amount of brushing.
Poochon Exercise Requirements
Poochons need only a moderate amount of exercise and will enjoy fetching games. They are well suited for apartment living provided that they are taken for a daily walk. They enjoy family activities, securely leashed walks, and off-lead play time in a securely fenced yard.
