Cavoodle Information

"Cavoodles are one of the most popular breeds, and for good reason. They make excellent family dogs. They’re great with other dogs and pets and of course fantastic with kids."

Cavoodles are a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Most Cavoodles are either toy size or miniature size. Toys are smaller than Mini’s but the Mini’s are still small dogs. We’ve found that the majority of Cavoodle breeders breed the first cross Cavoodle i.e. one parent is a purebred Cavalier and the other parent is a purebred Poodle, either toy or miniature which is what will determine weather the offspring will then be toy sized Cavoodles or miniature sized Cavoodles.

The Cavoodle is shorter than average. The ears are usually set well above the eyes and hang low past its chin. The neck is elongated and transitions to its straight back. Its tail is long and usually hangs freely past the hocks.

Cavoodles are a very healthy and robust little breed that gets on with everyone!

What Does a Cavoodle Look Like?

Typically, first cross (Cavalier King Charles x Poodle) are small dogs with a soft wavy coat. They have large, expressive eyes and a “teddy bear” face with long soft ears. Cavoodles come in a range of colours including red, gold, cream, black, black and tan, white, and tan and white. They are usually longer in shape, very similar to a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Toy Cavoodles are the smaller of the two sizes and stand between 28cm and 35cm while the Miniature size Cavoodles is slightly larger and stands between 35cm and 40cm.

Cavoodle Temperament

Cavoodles are gentle, loving, sweet natured little dogs. They get this trait from its parent, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They’re easy going and love to play with other dogs, pets and kids. Cavoodles are intelligent and highly trainable.

Cavoodles respond well to positive training. When focusing on negative behaviors try to focus on how a dog expresses its natural instincts rather than scolding or yelling at he or she. Now while the Cavoodle is quite intelligent they are sometimes prone to becoming distracted so during training sessions try to find a place without too many distractions and keep the training sessions short.

Most of our Cavoodles go to homes with children but are equally just as suitable for single people as well. Many of our Cavoodles also share their homes with other pets including other dogs, cats, rabbits and birds but it’s important to supervise them while they are young puppies to make sure they don’t pester other animals like rabbits which could cause the animal to over stress.

Cavoodle Health

Cavaoodles are generally healthy dogs. The average lifespan for a Cavachon is about 12 to 15 years but parentage is one factor that will influence longevity.  Our Cavoodles are DNA Health Tested for genetic health issues to reduce the risk of health issues in our Cavoodles.
