Cavocker Information

"The Cavocker breed is known for being easy-going and having a disposition that is sweet. They are also well known for being easily trained. They get along well with children and make good family pets."

The Cavocker or Cockalier is a hybrid  breed that is a mix between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and a Cocker Spaniel. For the most part, the Cavocker will tend to take on more of one of their parent’s shape than a combination of both. As a result, some Cavockers tend to be somewhat short and have bodies that are stocky; similar to that of the Cocker Spaniel. There are also other Cavockers that will have a body shape that is more similar to that of the Cavalier.

The Cavocker breed is known for being easy-going and having a disposition that is sweet. They are also well known for being easily trained. They get along well with children and make good family pets. They also get along well with other animals in the home as well. Their intelligence allows them to be quick learners and they typically have a strong desire to please their owners. Generally, they are easy to house train. This is a very loyal dog that does not usually display any signs of aggression. The smaller breed dogs should be supervised when playing with young children because they may be easily injured by energetic play. These dogs do love to play and should be provided with ample opportunity to play, especially with balls and ropes which they can tug on.

What Does a Cavocker Look Like?

Typically, first cross Cavockers (Cavalier King Charles x Cocker Spniel) are small/medium sized dogs with a soft wavy coat that is very similar the Cocker Spaniel.  They have large, expressive eyes with long soft ears.  Cavockers come in a range of colours including red, gold, cream, black, black and tan, white, and tan.  They are usually longer in shape, very similar to a purebred Cocker Spaniel however, when compared to most Cocker Spaniels, they are smaller.

Second generation Cavockers are usually smaller than the first generation Cavocker with a shorter muzzle that is similar to the purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Cavocker Temperament

Cavockers have excellent temperaments.  They are easy going and can get along with children and other pets and can be described as sweet tempered, friendly, loyal and reliable.

We have actually introduced Cavockers into our Spoodle breeding program.  By replacing the purebred Cocker Spaniel with the Cavocker, we are able to breed Spoodles with much calmer and easy going temperaments.

Cavocker Health

Cavockers are generally healthy dogs. The average lifespan for a Cavocker is about 12 to 15 years but parentage is one factor that will influence longevity.  Our Cavockers are DNA Health Tested for genetic health issues to reduce the risk of health issues in our Cavockers.

Cavocker Grooming

Cavocker don't require very much grooming.  Most owners will give their dog a quick go over with a brush abut every second day to keep the coat tangle free.  Some owners (including ourselves) will clip the hair on their ears to help keep their ears clean and dry but this is optional.

Cavocker Exercise Requirements

Cavockers need a moderate amount of exercise and will enjoy fetching games.  They are playful and some love the water.   They will do fine in a home with a small yard and although they can live in an apartment, they will need extra walks and exercise.   They enjoy family activities, securely leashed walks, and off-lead play time in a securely fenced yard.
